Study Shows Lack of Sleep More Dangerous to Women

A new study by the University of Warwick and University College London points out that women who get less than the recommended eight hours sleep a night are at higher risk of heart disease and heart-related problems than men with the same sleeping patterns. Researchers found that levels of inflammatory markers vary significantly with sleep duration in women, but not men.

The study was published July 1 in the American Journal Sleep, and stated that it found levels of Interleukin-6 (IL-6), a marker related to coronary heart disease, were significantly lower in women who reported sleeping eight hours as compared with seven.

The second marker, High-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), is predictive of future cardiovascular morbidity. Levels of hs-CRP were significantly higher in women who reported sleeping five hours or less.

T.S. Wiley has long been talking about the issues of women and sleep after writing her first book, "Lights Out: Sleep Sugar and Survival." History tells us that the diseases of civilization all hit hard after the Industrial Revolution when electricity gave us inexpensive artificial light. When you add it all up, the national health catastrophe has been about seventy-five years in the making.

Could the loss of sleep be destroying the endocrine clock that controls weight gain? Could how much you sleep really control your appetite? This may shock you. Yes. The prescription for better health is sleep, and it's free.

Wiley tells us there is simply WAY too much light in our society today. People don't sleep enough anymore. The real truth is that the urgent need to sleep is also the cause of Type II diabetes and other diseases of aging.

The answer lies in the circadian rhythmicity and evolution. This rhythm is about a 24-hour cycle in the physiological processes of all living beings (animals, plants, fungi and cyanobacteria.). The term "circadian" was coined by Franz Halberg, and it means "around", and dies, "day", meaning literally "about a day." Chronobiology is the formal study of daily, weekly, seasonal and annual rhythms. Circadian rhythms are can be modulated by external cues such as the sun (dawn and dusk) and temperature.

It seems as if almost every woman who hits her 40's succumbs to the inability to stay asleep through the night. It happens in peri-menopause but the truth is, these women never really sleep well for the rest of their lives.

She also strongly recommends rhythmic, biomimetic bioidentical hormones, and you will start sleeping through the night.

you can try the reasonably priced chewable Melatonin tablets available at Trader Joes and let several of them melt in your mouth about an hour before bedtime. (Take one for every hour after dark before midnight, with seasonal light changes.) And then as a last resort, reset your internal sleeping clock. Take Tylenol PM for three days and take a walk outside barefoot at dawn and at dusk.

You need to make sure your bedroom is dark. That means lights out. No moonlight or lamp post lights through the window, and no computer, clock or television screens.

You should really try to sleep for a minimum of nine hours or more of uninterrupted sleep every night.

Because of pharmacies like Westmoreland Pharmacy, women can get The Wiley Protocol

It is my intent to stop Wyeth-Ayerst from destroying the compounding of bio-identical hormones by playing the game by their rules. Many of the doctors I have worked with have shown me the ropes.

Five Easy Pieces
Here’s the plan:

  • Step 1: Registering compounding pharmacies across the country to make my invention, the Wiley Protocol®, in a standardized fashion that requires methods, materials, packaging and pricing stabilization overseen by T.S.Wiley, under a contractual pretext wherein T.S. Wiley drives a revenue stream (you) to them in exchange for doing the job right.
  • Step 2: Test quarterly their product and rely on you to report your experiences with them.
  • Step 3: Publish our feat of standardization of a compounded product in Pharmacy Journals. Until this is accomplished, the FDA won’t ever take bio-identical hormones seriously.
  • Step 4: Once we have enough Registered Pharmacies, each donating 10 prescriptions, we can have a legitimate study of a donated consistent product for the treatment of menopause. The study substance must be donated in the US to comply with NIH regulations. No lone Compounding Pharmacy will ever be able to bear the economic burden of a 5000 to 20,000 woman study. This is the only way I can find to beat the system invented by Big Pharma.
  • Step 5: Take some of the money made selling Pharmacies packaging with my name on it, that you look for, and finance the study. (pay for indemnification and blood tests)
5 Easy Pieces and we own our future.

To be very clear: I’m asking you to go to a physician who will honor your request to get your prescription for the Wiley Protocol® at a Registered Pharmacy. Pharmacies not Registered, will offer you “generics” which cost more and are not standardized. You all must take the exactly same thing in order to ever study the results and report them in a credible way. I’m also asking you to reward the pharmacists who will help us prove our point and to help them prove to Congress that Compounding Pharmacy is capable of self-regulation and should not be shut down for the economic gain of Wyeth.

Bottom Line

We spend billions of dollars on menopause and get almost no benefit and quite often harm for our desperate efforts. I intend this to stop. We deserve decent, deliberate medical care based on scientific premise and investigation, hence Feminist Medicine. We are half of the world and we live at the center of the other half’s universe. We are mothers, sisters, daughters and grandmothers as well as lovers and business partners. We shape and defend the world of men and children. When we feel bad, everyone suffers.
– T.S.Wiley

Until we have enough pharmacies to realize our goal, we intend to gather your data soon in this spot on the website using the North American Menopause Society’s Questionnaire for symptoms and registering your blood work results if you defer HIPPA privacy regulations. We are currently reviewing software solutions for sifting the data we can gather to report to medical journals.

How Started BioIdentical Hormone Therapy

Your first symptom might not be a hot flash! It may be headaches that you get around you menstrual cycle that you never had before in your 20's and 30's. Moodiness, insomnia, anxiety, palpitations, no energy, fatigue throughout the day, cravings for more sugar or carbohydrates...these are just a few of the changes I began to go through and had NO IDEA it was because I was losing my hormones! I was still having regular menstrual cycles! And I was only 42! What was going on with me?? I began to start researching. I had my first hormone blood test in 2007 and my Estradiol was 48 pg/ml and FSH was 4.01. What did that mean? Every doctor I asked said I was fine, those were normal numbers. Well, two years later and a whole lot of research in to my medical books I found out that 48 pg/ml was not normal!
http://women.webmd.com/normal-testosterone-and-estrogen-levels-in-women?

I would find web page after web page like the one referenced above that basically told me NOTHING! So many books later, and I will put a link for those books for you to access, which also on my facebook page. I found that NORMAL levels of estrogen in your body have a range and that we "cycle". The hormones don't stay at the same level all month long. Estrogen peaks at Day 12 on a 28 day menstrual cycle and it is in the range of 350-550 pg/ml and it then dips after you peak and it's baseline levels are between 150-200 pg/ml and lower on some days when progesterone is present. Progesterone also has a cycle range and it peaks on Day 21 of a 28 day cycle (if you are still ovulating) and it peaks in the range of 5-15 ng/ml and is present only days 14-28 in measurable levels. Otherwise days 1-14 it is not high enough to effect the estrogens job of rising to get us to ovulate! So exciting to learn all this. So my next job was to find out how can I mimic this cycle? What is being sold by pharmaceutical companies I already understood and knew those drugs did not mimic this normal cycle of a woman's body! That's when I discovered what Susan Somers is doing, Mrs. McGraw is doing and thousands and thousands of other woman who are doing great, look great, and feel great all because they went through exactly what I did and searched for the answers! I had to fly from my home of Illinois to California and I attended a seminar with TS Wiley called "Two Days Back on Earth Seminar". You can visit her website if you are a doctor and wish to attend.

So, I now use the Wiley Protocol and I can just tell you life is great! I'm back to exercising because I have the energy to do so. I'm energetic to tell every woman I know who is having hormone problems that there is an answer out there for you! I treat over 500 women myself in my small town clinic in Wilmington, Illinois. I love my job and my patients! I really just want patients to be well informed and from there everyone can make their own health decisions. I don't push bioidentical hormone therapy on those that don't want it or don't need it. My life has just been so blessed by treating the disease of menopause before it set in and grabbed a hold of me that I want to share that with those who want to hear my message.

Cheers and Bless You!

If you refer a colleague to one of the “Two Days Back on Earth Seminar” in Glendale, California, then we’ll give you 50% off your registration. The person you refer would be required to purchase their conference at the full conference rate of $1,850.00 including materials, or $1,200.00 if they already own the materials. This special is available thru 2009. If you have already attended this seminar you would still receive a 50% discount on the returnee discounted rate, which is $450.00, so it would be $225.00.
